Backgrounder
Diabetes Compass is Canada's only multimedia diabetes health education company dedicated to the awareness, education and prevention of diabetes and its health complications. We have been informing and educating Albertans about diabetes health since 2004 - first as a magazine, then as a radio and web program and website.
Diabetes Compass is committed to raising public awareness about diabetes through a full range of quality diabetes health information. Our company was formed to create a dialogue between healthcare providers, non-profit organizations, people who live with diabetes and people at risk of developing diabetes. Diabetes Compass works closely with several leading organizations that are dedicated to diabetes education, preventing a diabetes pandemic in Canada and help find the cure.
Diabetes Compass Radio launched in 2005. We broadcast and web-cast an informative weekly half-hour program which includes a condensed diabetes education class. This is a community-based initiative of Diabetes Compass in cooperation with our health region's diabetes program and other regional health professionals. These classes are 15 minutes in length within our 30-minute program.
Diabetes Compass Radio airs at 9:00 am every Saturday morning on AM930 CJCA Radio in north-central Alberta, Canada and simulcasts a web-cast throughout the world on www.diabetescompass.com. Diabetes Compass Radio is a tremendous resource; another education tool for patients and health professionals alike.
The purpose of each program is to provide unprecedented access to expert diabetes health information for Albertans and Canadians. We don't reinvent the wheel when it comes to program content. Each class reflects the main aspects of core topics as found in the group classes which Capital Health delivers in a hospital-based environment throughout the region. These classes are meant to compliment existing health education, provide immediate information for the newly diagnosed and be a refresher for Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes patients, their caregivers and family, healthcare providers and health-conscious citizens. Our program and classes offer an immediate solution to the thousands who live with diabetes in this region as well as the hundreds of persons who are diagnosed with diabetes every month.
Diabetes Compass is confident that diabetes education plus awareness, equals prevention. Therefore, we are very excited about our next major focus on diabetes awareness, targeted at the general public.
The future looks brighter as we continue to work diligently to help Canadians understand diabetes, diabetes risk factors and provide practical diabetes health management strategies.
